Fenestraria seedlings
See-Through Succulents
The Window Plant (Fenestraria rhopalophylla) is one of nature’s marvels!
These unique succulents grow cylindrical leaves that are mostly buried beneath the soil, and they get their light through a translucent, flat tip—the famous 'clear windows'—that sits right at soil level.
It’s an evolutionary trick designed to protect the plant from harsh sun while still letting light reach the chlorophyll below.
Information
Character and Care
These beautiful plants are grown right here from my own seed, so you know you are getting strong, healthy stock!
-
Appearance: They form dense, low clumps of these amazing club-shaped leaves. You will absolutely love looking at the clear, glossy 'windows' that allow light into the plant.
-
Care: Like their desert cousins, they prefer bright conditions and need to be watered sparingly and deeply. The key to their health is ensuring they have a gritty, fast-draining soil mix to prevent any rot. They are small and easy to manage, making them a fascinating addition to any succulent collection.
Why do I love them so much? Because they are so easy, as well as being so rewarding! Most succulents grow happily without being 'fluffed' over and really don't care if you forget about them for a while.
They achieve this amazing resilience by storing water in their thick leaves and stems. They are a brilliant choice for sunny positions and for anyone just starting their plant journey, as they require far less frequent watering than their jungle cousins.
These beauties truly are the ultimate low-maintenance companion!
