Often, new succulent collectors get confused about which is a cactus or a euphorbia when they are quite different. A simple prick will cause a euphorbia plant to release a white sap. Some people will warn you that the sap is dangerous, but I have never had any reaction to it. Common sense and washing your hands as soon as possible will be enough to avoid any problems. Also, you can touch euphorbia barbs, they will feel sharp, but not actually puncture you unless you hold on tightly. Touch a cactus the same and you will feel it immediately. You might even get a spine stuck in your finger without realising that you have touched a plant. Euphorbia plants are usually male or female and need the opposite to pollinate. The flowers are often quite small, yellow, and insignificant. But some are more special.
