This is an adorable, quirky wee succulent that earns its popular nickname, the Pickle Plant, for obvious reasons!
It’s a small, cute plant with bright green, gourd or gherkin-shaped leaves, complete with a fascinating lumpy, raised texture that makes it look exactly like tiny, fuzzy pickles.
Information
Care and Character
-
Unique Look: This perennial succulent forms a miniature shrubby mound of textured foliage, providing a wonderful conversation piece for any collection.
-
Flowers: When happy, it produces pretty, small, creamy yellow, daisy-like flowers that bloom from the tips of the pickle-shaped leaves.
-
Expert Watering Tip: Unlike many succulents, this Delosperma actually needs more water than you might think. If it goes too dry for too long, the plant can become woody and very sad looking. While stressing it (withholding water) can temporarily give it a lovely reddish appearance, it's best to keep the watering consistent to maintain that vibrant green and plump texture. You'll want to experiment until you get them growing just right!
Why do I love them so much? Because they are so easy, as well as being so rewarding! Most succulents grow happily without being 'fluffed' over and really don't care if you forget about them for a while.
They achieve this amazing resilience by storing water in their thick leaves and stems. They are a brilliant choice for sunny positions and for anyone just starting their plant journey, as they require far less frequent watering than their jungle cousins.
These beauties truly are the ultimate low-maintenance companion!
