Seemannia nematanthodes
Information
These plants produce striking orange/red flowers and are quite adaptable. You can grow them indoors as a showy houseplant (I keep mine under a covered deck when flowering) or outside in a sheltered position, similar to where you'd successfully grow Streptocarpus. They are sometimes called "The Hardy Gloxinia" as they can handle the cold quite well.
Having grown these from seed, I can confirm they are quick to flower—you should see blooms in the first season! Once the flowering finishes and the plant starts to wither, just let it die down. It's not gone for good! It will sprout again next spring from its small rhizome-type rootstock.
This collection is dedicated to plants that are typically grown directly in the garden.
Here you will find a range of Annuals, which give you stunning, season-long colour and are replaced yearly, and Perennials, which establish themselves and come back to provide reliable structure and blooms year after year. Perfect for filling out beds, adding colour, and providing structure outside the succulent section.
